Japan Post Bank’s Eurogiro connection operates despite disaster
Eurogiro informs that the services at Japan Post Bank continue despite the terrible earthquake that struck Japan Friday, 11 March 2011. It has been decided to turn off the systems in Japan when idle due to the scarce electrical resources. Blackouts should happen daily and will be continued during March and possibly April as well.
The IT Director of Eurogiro, Uwe Holmsgaard, states that the network is robust to handle this situation. Any transactions sent to Japan will go into “retry” mode and will automatically be delivered once Japan Post Bank is online again and there is no need for any special actions by the sending Eurogiro member.
However, according to contacts to colleagues at Japan Post Bank, Japan Post Bank is experiencing damages to local post offices and branches and is impacted by the damages to infrastructure and energy supplies in general and have a limited number of people to take operations. Delays may be expected.
Eurogiro wishes the colleagues at Japan Post Bank and the Japanese people all the strength they need to recover from this disaster and Eurogiro, Eurogiro’s Network Management Center (ENOC) and Japan Post Bank keep close contact to secure all is done to ensure that operations run as smoothly as possible.
