When Eurogiro changed software provider
to Seavus in Belgrade a year ago we start-
ed a project to re-factor the code in our
applications and to reduce the resources
needed for maintenance. The project also
included the implementation of a new user
interface (GUI).
We are now at the point where we can
present the results to our members. The
immediate visible change is the GUI,
where the layout has undergone a com-
plete facelift. The most frequently used
functions are now accessible from a dash-
board by the click on an icon. All functions
are still also accessible from drop down
menus. The major change in the GUI,
however, are the screens for data entry.
These screens have been completely
redesigned with a focus on user-friend-
liness. The layout and the order of the
fields have been changed to enhance the
flow in data entry. We have used the fol-
lowing guidelines in the new design:
>
Align labels and values, to reduce the
need for the eye to make unnecessary
movements. Labels placed above
correspondent field eases reading
>
Design of the data entry to make it clear
whether the system will go by column or
line. It is more natural to key in by line
thus limiting the eye zigzagging through
the page
>
Group connected information
>
Represent similar groups of fields in
a standardised format in order to ease
recognition
>
Use of borders to inputs fields to make
the page appear as a form. Having no
borders can be confusing, especially
for new users
>
If some of the mandatory information is
missing/errors are present in the form,
they will be highlighted to the user
>
Use of “dynamic data population”
to change the required entry fields,
dependant on the user input.
The layout and functionality in this new
version is the result of several workshops.
At the last two Technical User Group
meetings our members have given their
input, which has then been discussed and
designed in co-operation with the software
vendor and her screen design consultant.
With this new generation of the ELS
and ESM applications, Eurogiro is well
prepared to add additional functionality
into our service offerings. This includes
connections to other payment providers
using API’s.
