After 16 years of fruitful collaboration,
I am pleased and honoured that Western
Union has renewed its partnership
agreement with Eurogiro for another
five years.
A unique player in the industry, Eurogiro
has played an essential role over the years,
bringing together the most renewed interna-
tional postbanks, banks and posts along with
Western Union, giving birth to a unique coop-
eration network for global payment services.
Based on the mutual sharing of each
partner’s respective expertise and know-how,
this community has fostered fruitful business
relations between member organizations,
such as Western Union’s partnership with La
Banque Postale in France, and has brought
value to all its members.
A partner of Eurogiro since 1998, Western
Union has benefited from the secular
brand reputation of partner postal organi-
sations, and gained access to their unique
physical distribution network in each of their
territory.
Through this, Western Union, and other part-
ner banks have been able to expand
their reach both in urban and rural areas
where postal services traditionally have
a strong and long established physical
presence.
In turn, Western Union has brought value
to posts and postal banks, helping them
develop additional services to better serve
their clients and increase the flow of their
customers. Through these new revenue
streams seamlessly and efficiently added
to their traditional activity, Western Union
has enabled its partners to complement the
range of products they offer and diversify
their business model.
Similarly, we have provided complemen-
tary services to partner banks, enabling
Western Union and Eurogiro partnership
agreement renewed
them to extend the scope of payment ser-
vices they offer, in a cost efficient way.
Western Union helped both posts and
banks get a better understanding of the
remittances business and expand financial
services to capture growth on this market.
Many of our partners are now attach-
ing the same level of service to remit-
tances as mail delivery or other traditional
services, and joint platforms have been
developed to offer this vital service to
customers.
Through turnkey solutions made available
to its users by Eurogiro, Western Union
provides a ready-made way to enter the
money-moving business, with resources to
deal with all of the related regulatory and
compliance requirements, and the global
reach of a highly-trusted brand.
In twenty one years of existence, Eurogiro
has played a key role in helping members
of the industry develop and promote best
practice complying with the highest stan-
dards, and contributed to interoperability
within the sector.
In addition, the results from business ex-
changes within the community have gone
beyond expectations and have led to inno-
vation and enabled creative cooperation,
resulting in new services facilitating cross
border payment and enhancing customer
experience.
At a time when postal and financial institu-
tions are facing an increasing number of
business and technological challenges,
with new entrants and disruptive models,
Eurogiro’s role as a business community
is more relevant and important than ever.
In the face of these challenges, and
as opposed to new entrants, Eurogiro
members’ share a common DNA based on
client knowledge and field expertise. This
unique know-how in “the last mile”, char-
acterized by a strong social dimension,
is a key asset to address our customers’
critical needs.
Through continued collaboration and in-
novation, Western Union and the Eurogiro
partners will continue to develop and
facilitate remittances services, act as a
catalyst for financial inclusion and improve
access
to financial services.
In this context, Western Union is happy
to reaffirm its involvement within the
Eurogiro community and its commitment
to perpetuate the collaborative spirit that
reigns within it.
