Eurogiro in 20 years – celebrating outstanding
member contributions
As part of the 2013 anniversary celebrations, Eurogiro held an award session on Tuesday, 14 May
during the Eurogiro Community meeting. Each award category highlighted a contribution and a
mindset that had significantly contributed to the success that Eurogiro enjoys today
“We awarded one member in most categories,
but we could in many cases have awarded
several members” said Michel Stuijt, Eurogiro
CEO “and so we decided that an individual
member could only receive one award.
Furthermore that award would only go to
existing members. In any case, the effort
behind the contribution was truly a group effort
and Eurogiro is very grateful for the leadership,
collaboration and commitment demonstrated
by members over the years”.
Expanding the community
Whilst Eurogiro initially was a local solution
to market challenges of European post and
postbanks, the interest and commitment from
members outside Europe have fostered the
global scope of the community. In 1994 Japan
Postbank joined Eurogiro and Eurogiro’s focus
became the provision of cost efficient cross
border payments for payment handlers across
the globe. Early members adapted a unique
approach to helping new members into the
community with business, knowledge sharing
and coaching. This approach has been a key
strength in the community and has been the
source of significant development and many
friendships over the years and demonstrates
a key value for Eurogiro to build on in the future.
Innovating the services
As well as its unique method of handling mass
payments efficiently, which became Eurogiro’s
trademark from the start, Eurogiro has innova-
ted its services over the years. Each innovation
was a result of collaborative efforts, but bringing
the concepts to life has taken the particular ef-
fort of dedicated members. Eurogiro highlighted
three innovations: the first of its kind partnership
with Western Union, the unique single point of
settlement service, and the construction of the
next generation Money Order, Eurogiro Cash

Securing cost efficiency
Eurogiro members are only competitive if they
get the quality right. This has been a top priority
over the years, underpinned by regular monitor-
ing. Whilst good quality towards clients is es-
sential for the individual Eurogiro member, the
steady excellence in sending to other members
enables construction of competitive services in
the longer term. Amongst the Eurogiro mem-
bers at the meeting were six organisations who
had provided 100% Straight Through Rates
for their sent transactions for five consecutive
years. This is the quality on which Eurogiro can
build the future.
Outside the award categories, Michel Stuijt
gave particular mention to Poste Italiane and
Deutsche Bank for their remarkable commit-
ment and support to Eurogiro over the years.
