« Previous Page Table of Contents Next Page »The strongest growth in business is in Asia, how do you see Eurogiro best positioning itself to take a role in this development? We took the frst step with the representative offce in Singapore, employing one senior sales person there. The governance of Eurogiro should evolve to refect the fact that much of
most recent and forthcoming business would be in Asia and especially between countries in Asia. The Board is currently working on ways to further engage members in Asia in the develop-ment and we will make proposals to members in the near future. Our Asian Customer Council is already a very active contributor to the modeling of Eurogiro for the Asian market.
Eurogiro is well represented in French-speak-ing areas outside Europe, but not yet present in all French-speaking countries, for instance in Africa. Do you see a new opportunity for Eurogiro and Eurogiro members with French leadership in Eurogiro?
Looking ahead, Africa will play a crucial role. We note that China is already very active in Africa. I expect much development in this re-gion in the future. I visited Gabon recently, the second richest country in Africa, and found that much is being done to increase intra-regional traffc, for instance from Gabon to Togo and Cameron. Others are already very active in this region and the World Bank is also focusing on this now. We already have several members here, in Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, Togo and Madagascar and we look forward to additional members, for instance Algeria. We are ready to fund some development for new members to enable them to connect their IT and secure good processing quality.

Finally, what mark will we see from your Chair-manship in Eurogiro?
We are at a crossroad, with many critical issues to be faced at the same time. New technology is emerging for payments; SEPA is changing the payment landscape completely in Europe while business is expanding in Asia. Eurogiro wants continued cooperation with existing partners, while building new partnerships. Many crucial actions have been taken successfully by previous Chairmen. I intend to lead the Board and the community in the same spirit. 3

Ukrposhta in Ukraine expands its range of services
On 20th June, 2011 Ukrposhta expanded its service of sending international electronic transfers by establishing bilateral electronic transfer exchanges between Ukraine and Spain, and on 22nd June the frst customers were able to use this service
The first transfer from Spain was received by Ievhen Kameniv in the Livoberezhny Post Office in Kyiv. Mr. Kameniv explained that his relatives used to send him money from Spain via the banking system. But as soon as they learned about the possibility of sending international money transfers to Ukraine via the Spanish Post, they were pleased to make use of this opportunity, because sending postal money transfers is much cheaper.
There is no doubt that Ukrposhta is at an advantage that gives it a significant share of the money transfers market due to the large network of post offices, experienced staff, the availability of licenses for postal money
transfers and foreign exchange transactions, the Money Transfer payment system regis-tered in the National Bank of Ukraine, and the population's traditional confidence in the state enterprise.
Connecting to the Eurogiro network has of-fered Ukrposhta new prospects for further de-velopment, since almost all postal services in Europe use the Eurogiro system to exchange money transfers. Sixty postal services, banks and other financial institutions from more than 50 countries are connected to the Eurogiro network. Ukrposhta is now able to conclude international transfer exchange agreements with countries where a significant number of migrant workers from Ukraine reside. So far in
Ukraine only USEP "Ukrposhta" is a Eurogiro member.
In order to expand the area of providing the service of sending postal transfers, internatio-nal electronic transfer exchange agreements with Eurogiro, members such as Spain, Latvia, Croatia, Poland and Portugal were signed in June–July this year. On 1st August this year, Eurogiro transfer exchange with Poland and Croatia was established, and exchange with Latvia was scheduled for 1st September. 3
