Established in 2002, Liberty Bank is the fourth largest bank in Georgia based on total assets, with a
6.6% market share. It has the largest network in Georgia, comprising 267 branches and sales outlets.
Known for its innovative mindset, Liberty Bank is always seeking new solutions to enable it to offer
fast, convenient and reliable services to its customers
One of the innovations introduced by the bank
in August 2010 is a new distribution channel
“Liberty Express” for clients living in rural areas
of Georgia. “Liberty Express” is a modern mini-
van functioning as a mobile service centre and
equipped with all necessary equipment (safe,
computer, printer etc.) to provide basic retail
banking services to its clients.
“Liberty Express” mobile service centres
periodically locate themselves in various towns
and villages of Georgia and offer people our
banking services. This product aims to offer
a quick and high quality banking service and
to make the bank more accessible for the
villagers. The Bank has gradually increased
the geographic coverage within the country, by
starting with 6 mobile service centres in 2010
and eventually increasing coverage throughout
Georgia, with 100 “Liberty Express” mobile
service centres in 2012. The mobile service
centres are able to reach 1,188 villages, thus
claiming the largest footprint in the country.
We also have 16 Liberty Express service
centres ready to be allocated and these will
be added to regions in the near future.
“Liberty Express” offers customers the full
range of banking services, including: money
transfers, foreign exchange, pension distribu-
tion, payroll payout, payroll loan, pension
advance, micro loans, utility bill payments,
opening of liberty accounts, making one-time
payments, opening deposits in national
currency, etc. “Liberty Express” serves its
customers in the defined operational limits
(7,500 GEL or equivalent in foreign currency).
The clients may receive remittances or send
money via 21 money transfer systems oper-
ated by Liberty Bank. During nine months
of 2012, approximately 6% of all remittance
transactions (by n mber) were made through
Liberty Express minivans. The volume of
remittances made via Liberty Express
minivans during nine months of 2012
exceeded 15 million GEL.
The “Liberty Express” mobile bank is staffed
by 7-8 bank employees: a controller (head
of group), 4 cashier-operators, 1 driver, and
1 or 2 guards/money-collectors (as needed).
"Liberty Express" is equipped with 5 compu-
ters, a security camera, 5 installed tray-safes,
2 printers and a GPS control system, which
gives the bank the ability to have centralised
control on the location of the mobile bank,
as well as enabling it to monitor the speed of
relocating. 427,000 transactions are con-
ducted each month at mobile service centres,
with their operational day being 09.30am to
17:30pm (09:30am-14:30 pm on Saturdays);
the standard working hours of Liberty Bank.
Opening hours can be extended if necesssary.
This innovation has enabled the residents of
Georgia’s rural areas to raise their knowledge
of, and need for, banking products. Nowadays,
Liberty Express mobile service centres are
able to reach over 1.1 million customers and
are becoming an integral part of everyday life
for Georgia’s rural population.
“The introduction of this new distribution chan-
nel was in line with our tradition of being a pio-
neer in innovations. By introducing the Liberty
Express minivans we have started banking the
unbanked population in rural areas of Georgia.
We will continue investing in retail distribution
channels to further improve the quality of our
services and maintain the largest retail footprint
in the country”, commented George Arveladze,
Chief Operating Officer of Liberty Bank.
