Swiss Post PostFinance colleagues say
"Thank you Jean-Luc"
Jean-Luc Demierre, our colleague of many years and a well known face in the Eurogiro
community, began his well-earned retirement on 18 May 2011
Jean-Luc has worked for Swiss Post in vari-
ous positions since 1968. In 1983 he joined
the Payments unit, where he remained until
2011. He was thus responsible for setting
up and introducing Postcheques in 1984-
85. From 1987, Jean-Luc expanded our
international postal relationships and postal
services and was PostFinance's represen-
tative in the UPU, where he also headed
Eurogiro News 5
various international committees. At the
same time, Jean-Luc acted as an interface
between the Swiss Post Group and SECO
(State Secretariat for Economic Affairs
Switzerland).
He was also closely involved in connecting
PostFinance to the Eurogiro network. More-
over, Jean-Luc implemented the Eurogiro
Swiss francs payments worldwide
PostFinance now offers a solution for the efficient, cost-effective processing of payments
in Swiss francs for banks around the world
Particularly in times of crisis, the Swiss franc
gains in significance as it is viewed as a
"safe haven" in the same way as gold. The
massive rise in value of the franc led to the
Swiss National Bank having to intervene at
the start of September. In its battle against
the strength of the franc, it set a minimum
exchange rate of 1.20 to the euro. This
action will boost Swiss export business.
PostFinance has also noticed the grow-
ing significance of the Swiss currency and
has been aware for some time of a sharp,
constant rise in Swiss franc payments
worldwide. For this reason, it has expanded
its product range and now processes Swiss
francs worldwide for its customers and inter-
national partner banks.

behalf of Eurogiro, and provided local

In his free time, Jean-Luc is happiest when
spending time with his wife, children and
grandchildren, whether hiking or skiing.
We are pleased, however, that even after
40 years of service at Swiss Post, Jean-
Luc is not planning on taking it totally easy
and will remain in international payments.
He will continue to implement the finan-
cial services procedures for new Eurogiro
members on behalf of Eurogiro A/S, and will
therefore still be involved in the Eurogiro
community as Executive Business Consul-
tant for Eurogiro.
